The Anemone genus consists of around 150 species and belongs to the Ranunculaceae, a plant family that contains many ornamentals and horticultural species. The poppy anemone (Anemone coronaria L.) is an herbaceous perennial winter-flowering species cultivated throughout Europe, USA and Israel. In the last decades, numerous cultivars has been selected for cut flower market for their large petals and sepals, early flowering and robust stems, including sub-cultivars mainly classified by flower colour.
Thanks to the SSR markers that have been mined starting from our Anemone draft genome, it was possibe to perform a fingerprint of eight varieties that are present at Biancheri Creazioni (https://www.bianchericreazioni.it/).
This tool can be usefully applied in parentage analysis, allowing the punctual identification of the cultivars produced by Biancheri Creazioni.
